The New York Times came out with a cool Dialect Quiz. It’s 25 questions asking how you pronounce certain words (You all or Y’all etc). It then compares your answers to a dialect survey from thousands of participants taken over the past year. It gives you a map with the 3 most similar and least similar areas of the country to your dialect. My three most similar cities were Ft. Worth, Austin, and Jackson Mississippi (Ft. Worth isn’t surprising since I grew up in and around that area but Jackson was unexpected). My three least similar areas were Saint Paul Minnesota, Buffalo New York, and Worcester Massachusetts (so yea… no surprises there).
