"Thoughts From A Sleep Deprived Mind"

The time has come for Mike and I to say goodbye to our friends and listeners in West Texas. We are retiring this Friday and moving to our beloved cabin. It is a very bitter-sweet time for us. We have loved being a part of this amazing community for so many years.

When our grandchildren (Gabriel and Gwendolyn) were born this summer, it truly changed our world. We want to be able to spend as much time as possible with them. But we will miss you all.

We have been privileged to be a part of your lives for the last 25 years. We have watched your children grow and have children of their own. You have been a part of our biggest, most treasured moments.

We love this radio station, Kicks 991. We started with one listener on July 15th, 2001 and you helped make it grow into what it is today. Kelley, Derrick and Dre will continue to do an amazing job and we hope you welcome whoever takes our place in the mornings with open arms. Give them a chance to make the show their own.

The staff and management of Kicks 991 really believe in live and local radio and they have a heart for community service. You couldn't have a better community partner than Kicks 991. Keep listening, there are great things happening here!

Please stay in touch with us on facebook.com/mikedana.schuff we will love hearing from you. Be well friends and THANK YOU for 25 great years!

Mike and Dana Announce Retirement

"Genuine Country KICKS 99-1 Morning Team Retire"

For Immediate release
December 12, 2014

Odessa-Midland, Texas—"Mike and Dana," KICKS 99-1 Morning Show Personalities and John Moesch, Vice President/General Manager of Brazos Communications West, LLC, today announce the planned retirement of "Mike and Dana" at the end of this year. Their last on-air show is December 19, 2014.

"Mike and Dana" are long-time Morning Show Personalities at Genuine Country Kicks 99-1. The couple have more than twenty-five years on radio stations serving Odessa-Midland and surrounding communities, fifteen of them with KICKS 99-1.

Mr. Moesch said, "We're thankful for the many years of entertainment and service Mike and Dana have given KICKS 99-1 listeners and the West Texas communities we serve. Mike and Dana have been contributors and volunteers to our radio stations and to the many non-profit and community organizations that make West Texas a place we are proud to call home. Mike and Dana are talented entertainers and gifted communicators. We're excited for them as they explore a new phase of life. They'll be missed greatly, but will always be welcome at KICKS 99-1."

Mike and Dana were honored as "Broadcast Personalities of the Year" by the Country Music Association in 1996, The Country Radio Broadcasters in 2000 and the Academy of Country Music in 2007 – the only broadcast team to have won all three awards!

Dana said, "It's been a good ride, 34 years of my life. Being on the radio is not about being famous, rich or seeing the beautiful sunrise every morning. Being on the radio is talking to friends every day. It's about introducing great new Country Artists like Miranda Lambert and Zac Brown to listeners. It's about talking to listeners who were kids in 1989 when they started and who now have kids of their own. We've shared our lives together."

Mike said, "Radio and KICKS 99-1 have allowed us to make a difference in the lives of listeners and the communities we serve. It has given us a unique platform to help people. We don't do all the hard work like many other dedicated volunteers in West Texas, but we make sure listeners know who's doing the heavy lifting, and how to get involved and be able to help. "

Dana began her radio career at KBAT-FM in 1980 before moving to KNFM-FM, KGEE-FM, and then to KHKX-FM, "KICKS 99-1" from 2001-2014.

Mike Schuff started on air at WTRX-FM Flint, Michigan in 1973. He was a talent at KGEE-FM Odessa-Midland, Texas until he joined KHKX-FM "KICKS 99-1" in 2001.

The couple has served as volunteers and board members in a number of organizations. Their most high profile participation has been with the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon, which they've hosted annually for 22 years. The KICKS 99-1 CMN Radiothon has raised over One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00) for Odessa's' Medical Center Hospital.

Dana has been active as a board member with Children's Miracle Network, The Crisis Center, and the Recording Library for the Blind. Mike has worked with Habitat for Humanity, The American Cancer Society's Roundup, and The Children's Miracle Network.

Mike and Dana plan to make their home in New Mexico where they will enjoy their grandkids, feeding the deer and sleeping late.
