My favorite part of Thanksgiving Day is not the food. It’s the tree. When I wake up on Thanksgiving morning, my first thought is “We get the tree today!”
I think it is so special because we don’t go to a tree lot…we go to the forest! Each year, after dinner, we head out to the Lincoln National Forest and choose our tree. This takes much hiking and scouting of possible trees. It is harder than you think to choose a tree in a forest. First of all, they look so much smaller in the forest than they do in your living room!
This year, we took our daughter-in-law, Lilly, on the tree hunt! It was her first time. Once we had done some hiking and searching, we found the perfect “Griswold Family Christmas Tree” (a nod to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation). Mike started the chainsaw and let Lilly cut it down. She was so excited!
And then, for the first time in YEARS, I had help decorating it! Yay Lilly!!
