I, and every other sane person in the Permian Basin, have noticed the extremely aggressive driving on our roads. I have become defensively cautious. I now wait for a few seconds after the light turns green at an intersection for the inevitable red-light-runners.
The problem is, I also get ridiculed by the male members of my family (especially my son and my brother) for being “too passive” when I drive. My brother says “you have to claim the lane you’re in and don’t let anyone cut you off!” My son says there is such a thing as “aggressive-defensive driving”. Really?!!
I think what we need on our roads, in our stores, in our homes and at work…is more civility. Let’s stop pushing and start being kind. And I guess that means I have to stop screaming “Put down your phone!!!” when I am driving. Hmmm.
