Our very own Kelley Peterson just got back from taking her daughter to college so this really hit home when I saw it. I just knew I needed to share it here. It is called “5 Tips to Stay Safe at College” and it is lifesaving information for students, parents, teachers, and friends of college age girls.
PARTIES – Never put down your beverage and come back to it! Date rape drugs are prevalent on the college scene and are impossible to detect without a test kit. Go to parties as a group, watch out for each other, and leave together.
ATMs AND PARKING LOTS – Bad guys see ATMs in less-traveled areas as a hunting ground; ditto dark parking lots, the site of a high percentage of campus assaults. Make a very-public ATM your cash source.
HALL CRUISING – Innocent appearing predators gain access to dorms, sororities, or residence halls by trusting residents. Then they cruise the halls looking for unlocked doors to find their victims. Lock your door at all times!
ALWAYS WALK WITH SOMEONE AT NIGHT – This is just obvious! Your college campus is not closed to outsiders and they can be a hunting ground for the creeps out there. So always walk with a friend or call security to get you to your dorm if necessary.
